Work is extremely difficult when most of your coworkers dislike your religion. Even more so whey they criticize your beliefs! I'm one of the two teachers at work that are Latter Day Saints. (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Also known as Mormons). The rest of them do NOT like my religion, which is completely fine. I understand and respect their opinions. Never do I try to preach my religion. Nor do I think I am any better than those who are not of my faith. However, as adults, I believe it should be mutual. At my work, I often walk into a conversation about "Mormons and how XXXXX we are." At first, I sat through and listened. I often shared some opinions. Sometimes agreed and sometimes disagreed. In the end, I repeatedly told them religion should focus mainly on your relation with God. Never judge my gospel by the people! We are so imperfect and weak.. The gospel/church is perfect. People are not. Now, it's gotten to the point where I'm a bit afraid to pull out my Ensign during lunch. Hostile work environment, right? :( This is one of the biggest WOWs I had to encounter once we moved to Murray. David and I were quite surprised once we figured out that outside of Provo/Orem area, there really aren't a lot of members of our same faith! I'm still learning how to be the odd one. Once we move out of Utah, it'll only get worse so I know I need to overcome this! Any suggestions?
Anyhow, what is better than stepping into your home after a L-O-N-G day at work?? Coming home to a home cooked meal by the hubby! Yes, my husband is quite amazing! Was I ever so touched to see David running around the kitchen, furiously trying to cook up a meal! Dishes and pans flying everywhere and my dear David was doing absolutely everything he could to perfect his meal! He made Parmesan chicken with spaghetti and cooked veggies! And oh my, it was delicious! Thanks to my dear husband, I got over my frustrating day. He prepared a great meal and let me vent about my day. Not only is he a great cook but he's also a patient listener. (I'm sorry, I'll stop bragging about my hubby. But I really did marry the most amazing man alive!) I was so touched by his meal I gladly said okay when he wanted to leave me for his other lover, PS3 for the night! :( I'm such a good wife!!! (But really, guys and their video games! Psh!!) :( :(

Nom nom nom. Thanks hubby! |
That looks like a super fancy meal! I had no idea that David was such a talented chef. Sorry to hear about your struggles at work. It won't necessarily get any easier when you leave Utah but that's the great part about sharing the Gospel with others :) There are a lot of great people out there who don't share our beliefs but don't mock us either!
ReplyDeleteMaybe I should become a chef instead of a doctor....
ReplyDeleteI loved reading about your experience at work. I think people will see the person you are and you can really change a lot of opinions people have about the church. Go Diana!
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of wonderful people who are not of our faith , I am sorry to hear about your co workers. They must have some bad experiences with members of our Church maybe you can help overcome their prejudice by being a good example.
